The rifts kind of remind me of the castle or whatever it is in Hyrule Warriors where you fight the Dark Links, and there are rifts in the walls where you can see debris floating.

OMG! Okay, I have a lot of thoughts and theories about the lore of this game and its universe. And their cosmology. But I think what needs to be first understood is that the world of the land between should be seen more like a realm like in Thor and Asgard. As a part of the cosmic world tree. Like there is a literal cosmic Tree outside of time and space, that has branches and roots touching or intersecting into every realm and universe and dimension. Which is why when we fight the Elden beast there is so many Erdtrees around us. We are in a liminal space, inside that part of the world tree get a glimpse of what it is to be in the. Flow of life and space time. So that basically in each realm and universe will have some version of a Great-tree that exists as that universe singularity point and connection to the true divine and the infinite world tree. Like a tree in every realm, that tree is a symbol of and anchor for the cosmic world tree, so it’s actually a root or a branch, an offshoot of said cosmic tree. And just like in Norse mythology and Marvel Lore, there are not just living worlds, but magical ones, elemental ones, temporal worlds, and worlds that seem to be a soul collector or transition point for the souls and spirits of those who have died near that area? Maybe ever realms has both a living world and a shadow underworld? I think for this game The Lands Between is one of those Limbo realm. A realm between awake and dreams or between life and true death. Specifically the land between is the land between life and death. I Think of it originally as all connected to each other as a path from the real living world all the way to being one with all things. Oblivion and the genesis of rebirth. So you have these realms that are intermediary between the two. A limbo. All of what exists now in the game is as a state made by the ascension of Marika to Godhood and the change of the great tree and crucible to the erdtree and the shadow tree. That and what she did with the rune of death has basically created the same toxicity and taint as in Dark souls and the cycle of fire. They are artificial. And an Anathema to the actual natural state of things. The natural order. What was once a United natural world-tree of limbo for this dimension? Has now been torn asunder and made a singularity. Two interconnected opposing and mirror realms to each other. Think of the figure eight infinity symbol. That is what the lands between and the shadow realm are now. Two separate but interconnected realms. Both forced to be almost closed loops. She did this by stoping the souls of life from passing through to the next stage so that instead they power the elden ring. Or they power the tree on one side. And because the natural state and cycle of things in the tree of souls has been interrupted and their rebirth facilitated instead by the Elden Ring and the tree instead of through nature and life? It’s created a feed back loop destined to fester and cannabilize itself. Because you can only recycle things so many times before they become hollow and fallow. It maybe that in its original form, the great tree is two intertwined in a helix, like Yin and Yang, and one side taking souls to be cleansed and reborn, the other giving life to the cleansed souls. Or feeding the rest of life in the nature of the realm. Then a schism happened with Marika. And she interposed herself, the elden ring, and the greater will as fulcrum in between each side. The shadow realm is the soul tree, the ones between is the life giving tree, and with the rune of death removed an unnatural from of immortality. So what is the engine and fuel of said tree now? And that’s pretty much as close to what I’ve gotten to. But I can feel I am onto something!! What do you all thing or can add or refine of these ideas?

I hate that we don't know the minimum details about where we are lol. Because of this everything happening within the DLC has no context. Why are we traveling to this mysterious place by touching a blood ravaged Miquella? Did he send us back through time AND space? Does this realm exist inside his body? What's happening?? lol

I don't think Ganondorf had anything to do about the state of the shadow temple since we visit the bottom of the well as young Link. It's been theorized that the well used to be part of the temple in lore and also in gameplay (being one single dungeon) but for one reason or another it's been cut.

The main issue with Zelda loretubers and theorytubers and the masses of people mad that the Zelda lore and history don't neatly line up need to remember that everything in the series is made up and subject to addition and subtraction on the whims of the creators. Let me point you to one simple thing that perfectly highlights this: Satori. The mountain, the Lord of the Mountain, and Blupees have never been mentioned in any prior game and only existed following the death of Satoru Iwata, inserted into the game as an homage to the man and his legacy. They made a decision to add a whole god/spirit creature to the game, a whole mountain range, and retool the source of rupees all based on the real world death of a friend and colleague. When Shigeru passes, you can bet the next mainline game will have something similar, possibly even greater. Where the history and lore of the game world is so flexible that the creators can just add in things that 'always existed' but have never been seen before, it's time to stop being upset that the Zonai are new, or that the timeline doesn't make 100% sense.

he Water Temple was not difficult in terms of actual challenge. It was the level design that was the problem. It is a labyrinthine dungeon where it was very easy to get turned around miss key areas and items that impedes progression.

What!? I cannot believe people think ToTK is disappointing in terms of lore! ToTK has given the series so much potential by taking really obscure themes and lore from all over the series, and bringing it to the forefront for future games. Everyone is saying the Zonai are a random, novel addition, but the series has themes of time manipulation and robotics that now have a chance to be fully investigated. The constructs and Zonite mines have similarities to the Ancient Robots and timeshift stones from SS. And Rauru and Sonia's relationship, sets up an interesting dynamic between the Zonai and the Hylians as a pair of opposites. Like what if Hylia, the godess of Light/creation of Hyrule, has a Zonai counterpart, like the lesser known Godess of Time? Likewise, I think the depths has a lot to offer. We've seen multiple alternative and shadow/dark versions of things in the series, like worlds, people, places, etc. All allude to ideas about war, calamities, loss, and grief. But these places are also associated with mystery, secrets, and dark history. We've heard the war and imprisoning story told over and over again, but I think the depths hold more clues into things like the secrets and dark past of Hyrules Royal family. And there are little wisps of myths from the various races, that add detail to the various cultures. Like the Storm ark as a rito legend? We've spent so much time on the zora-rito connection, but what about these stories? I'm no lore expert, and these are just off the top of my head, but its not that ToTK has presented an entirely new world, its that the themes and ideas create new connections throughout the whole series. Maybe it's because there is still more to be revealed in the future.
